Shilajit

Shilajit: What In The World Is It?

Being one of the most bizarre substances on planet earth, Shilajit is something everyone could benefit from learning a bit about. The name Shilajit comes from an Ayurvedic term meaning "rock-conquerer", which is fitting because it is mostly found in rocks.

Although it can be found all around the world in the Tibet, Caucasus, Altai, Gilget Baltistan, and Andean mountain ranges, it is found primarily in the rocks of the Himalayas. How can you spot it? It's a black paste or resin-like substance that seeps into the cracks of these mountains.

If you did find it, then you would be a witness of a special journey. All Shilajit took a very long time to end up where it did. In fact, it forms over centuries! It develops from the slow decomposition of resin-bearing plants.

The final product is mostly comprised of Humic and Fulvic Acid. Fulvic Acid is the unique antioxidant in Shilajit that gives it most of its superpowers. However, there are also many naturally occurring trace minerals from the broken down plants that makes it special.

This is why it's a very common ingredient in Ayurvedic (Traditional Indian) medicine. It's said to have such wide-ranging positive effects on one's overall health and well-being. And these effects are not just anecdotal anymore. Shilajit has been the subject of a few human clinical studies now.

One study on both men and women used a Shilajit extract that contained 132 mg of Fulvic Acid. After 45 days, the study demonstrated that Shilajit improved antioxidant status and HDL "good" cholesterol, while decreasing serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels. (1) Overall, this shows that at least this dosage of Fulvic Acid could potentially have beneficial effects on the immune and cardiovascular systems.

Another study that was just done on adult men used a more concentrated extract with 250 mg Fulvic Acid. After 90 days, this study demonstrated that Shilajit can increase both total and free testosterone levels. (2) Now this study may only apply to men, but Shilajit is also traditionally used for women's sexual health and hormone balancing.

These wide-ranging benefits, and the fact that is also naturally has lots of trace minerals, made it a an easy decision to include this ingredient in our Pinnacle Men's and Women's Multis. It's ingredients like this that really make them complete, all-in-one nutrient supplements for men and women.

We decided to use 500 mg with a 50% extract for Fulvic Acid, yielding 250 mg Fulvic Acid. This covers the Fulvic Acid content that has been shown to have beneficial effects. This extract also has at least 40 different naturally occurring trace minerals.

Using a purified extract like this is important because raw or unprocessed Shilajit could be contaminated with all kinds of things and have heavy metals. Safety and effectiveness is what we will always provide to you! So if you want to see what Shilajit can do for you, then our Pinnacle Men's and Women's Multis are what you need.
