WHAT IS COLLAGEN?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and serves as one of the major building blocks in skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. There are more than 20 types of collagen, but the main 3 are conveniently named Type I, Type II, and Type III.
Different forms of collagen contain different types, which is why it is important to know the source of collagen. We have chosen to use bovine collagen, which contains types I and III. Why did we choose this option?
Because Types I and III are the main ones found within your hair, skin, nails, tendons, ligaments, and bones. Since these are the main problem areas people are trying to address when looking for collagen, bovine collagen is usually the best solution.
However, we want to mention that Type II can also be very valuable if you are trying to improve any cartilage issues. If this sounds like you, then we probably recommend a chicken or marine based collagen over our bovine collagen because they have a lot more Type II collagen.
We also want to stress that we are NOT selling this product as a muscle building supplement. Although collagen is a protein, it's an INCOMPLETE protein because it lacks the essential amino acid tryptophan. Although collagen does have many benefits, muscle building is not one that we will be promoting.
However, improving your skin and joints are things that we will promote because these effects have been studied in humans. (1,2) For your skin, it can improve elasticity, while decreasing wrinkles and dryness. For your joints, it can help with stability, strength, and overall healthiness, while decreasing pain and stiffness.
It may also help your hair and nails. Collagen contains high amounts of the amino acid proline, which is the main amino acid of the protein keratin. Keratin is the primary protein that makes up your hair and nails, so increasing keratin could potentially improve your hair and nail quality.
If any of these benefits sound enticing to you, then 1-2 scoops per day of our Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen could be the missing ingredient your body has been craving.
